Hull House was founded over 120 years ago by America’s first female Nobel Prize Winner, Jane Addams.  She was a tireless and fearless champion for the arts, social justice, immigrants, workers, public education, public health, good government and grass roots economic development. We can’t let one of the oldest social services organization
in America simply go out of business. Chicago is sitting on about $1 billion in property taxes that are in its TIF funds. These funds are routinely being given to commercial projects that need no public money (like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and Grossinger’s Auto). We bailed Wall Street out and got nothing back. We say “Save Hull House - Put People First!”

I read of the closing of Hull House with great dismay! Jane's childhood home is very near my own and I have studied and admired her over the years. Hull house needs to be re-opened. My daughter is a graduate of J A School of Social Work at UIC

If the city has that much TIF money sitting around why are they cutting services for people who actually need the help? Makes no sense at all.

Heartbroken to hear this news. Jane Addams would be appalled by what is happening to her legacy.

My grandmother worked there years ago and always spoke about the good they did. Do not let this place disappear!

This is just shameful. Chicago loses another piece of history while the city keeps handing money to big developers. So tired of this.
